How do I apply my tattoo?
  1. Choose the area of skin on which you want to place the tattoo. Flat areas without body hair that do not fold, stretch or rub against clothing are best.

  2. Thoroughly clean skin of any dirt and oil. A cotton pad with 90% rubbing alcohol works well for this. Make sure skin is dry before applying the tattoo. If the skin is not properly cleaned before application, the tattoo will peel away from the skin after it is applied.

  3. With the plastic cover sheet still on, cut out your tattoo as close to the edge of the image as possible.

  4. Now peel the clear, protective plastic away from your StrayTat, revealing the sticky surface. Try not to touch the sticky part.

  5. Place your StrayTat sticky-side-down on your skin.

  6. With a warm, damp washcloth or paper towel, hold it firmly against your skin for 20 to 30 seconds, or until the backing paper is fully soaked and semi-transparent.

  7. Slide the backing paper off the StrayTat and remove. Allow it to dry without touching it for 2 to 3 minutes.

How long will my tattoo last?
With proper application and care the image can maintain a high level of quality for 2 to 5 days.

The most important thing you can do to extend the life of your temporary tattoo is to ensure it is placed in a location where it will not be in contact with anything except your skin.

Is my tattoo waterproof/sweatproof?
Yes! With proper application, your StrayTats tattoo will be completely waterproof and sweatproof.

In fact, a few of our customers have worn them while running marathons and have had no trouble. One even ran a marathon through Death Valley without any problems!

If placed in a location where your clothing (or other, external surfaces) will not rub on it, your tattoo should withstand almost all the water you can throw at it.

How do I remove my tattoo?
If you want to remove your tattoo, you may do so with isopropyl rubbing alcohol and cotton pads or paper towels.

  1. Apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton pad or paper towel, then wipe it over the entire tattoo to wet it; this helps to break down the adhesive.

  2. Once you have wet the entire tattoo, start at one end of the tattoo and rub in small, gentle circular motions until the tattoo dissolves away.
You will likely need to use more than one cotton pad or paper towel, depending upon the size of your tattoo.

Remember: It is important to let the alcohol have time to do the work of breaking down the adhesive; simply rubbing harder may remove the tattoo faster, but it may also irritate your skin. Please be patient - your skin will thank you!

Recently applied tattoos will take longer to remove (sometimes up to 15 minutes or longer). Tattoos that have been worn for several days will dissolve more easily as the tattoo will naturally degrade over time.

Should I reverse my design before uploading it?
No; simply upload your image as you want it to wear on your skin.

Will the color white show in my tattoo?
No. The color white will be transparent. In "white" areas of the tattoo you will see your skin. This allows you to upload an image on a white background and not have the white background show in your tattoo.

For example, if you get a tattoo of the American flag, when it is applied the white stripes and the stars will appear skin-toned. In most cases this looks incredibly authentic; white ink is uncommon in real tattoos.

Uploading a picture of someone wearing a tattoo?
The design you upload to StrayTats is EXACTLY what your tattoo will look like when it is shipped to you.

So unless you want a tattoo of a picture of somebody wearing a tattoo (and if you do, that's fine), the image you upload needs to be of the design you want on a white background.

There are lots of places to find these on the internet. Just google `public domain tattoo designs,` or simply pick one from our gallery.

You can even create your own using your favorite drawing program!

Can I scan a hand-drawn tattoo design?
Drawings may be scanned, but it is important that it is scanned well. Remember that the color white does not print in your tattoo. This allows you to upload an image on a white background without having the white background print in your tattoo.

The challenge with scanning an image that is drawn on white paper is that often, due to shadows or shading, the white background of the paper is not truly white in the scanned image, and any shade that is not white will print in your tattoo.

Scanning an image for a StrayTats tattoo can be done very effectively, just make sure the background of the scanned version of your image is as bright white as possible.

If you cannot get the image background to scan perfectly white, remember that you can simply cut out your tattoo very closely before applying it to eliminate the background.

I need a tattoo larger than 8" x 8".
Larger tattoos are nearly impossible to apply without encountering creases or bubbbles which might ruin your application. Due to this, we do not produce tattoos any larger than this.

If you have a need for a larger design, consider dividing your design into sections and ordering them as separate tattoos. Applying your design in several, smaller tattoos will often be much easier and less prone to error.

Just be sure to take particular care that you are ordering the different pieces in the right sizes to make them correctly proportionate to one another.
